Over the years it looks like Matěj Kotouček sees the project Sky to Speak as a modular system he was working with in Bastl Instruments, respectively Noise Kitchen workshop in Prague until recently. Initially, a duo where his musical output was accompanied by video projections, later shaped more into a band, to shrink back to the former audiovisual dyad again (this time with Jakub Krejčí).

He continuously draws inspiration from cinematic music, electronica, ambient, and downtempo across time, as well as from experiments and avant-garde.
While honing his crafts on scenic music, field recordings, and improvisation - either way as part of Brno-based experimental AVA collective back then, half of Thistle with Finnish filmmaker Simo Hakalisto recently, or solo lately under alias Loops of Decay, and in whose creations similarity to this selected archive recordings (from over the past ten years) can be found, same like sonic intentions with the group.
The collection of abbandoned miniatures worth repeated listening to unveil fully - with peculiar muffled or exposed beats and drums, micro textures and hazy drones - sounds like both what he had worked on before, and also the own future things to come at that time.

It reflects the author's artistic transition - from seemingly electroacoustic, live band rhythms influenced pieces like „Midnight Caravan“ or „Forsaken“, which reminds his previous works, while opening „Sandwater“ carries more similarities to the recent creative outputs.
The oldest ones („Forsaken“, and ended up using lo-fi aesthetic „Feather Palms“) next to the latest compositions on this compilation recorded with hardware synths, like „Orange Pink Felt (live)“ and „Sleepy Garden“, draws the diverse and very personal path across the time as well. These transiences reflects also the motifs of the cover artwork (and cassette insert) photos by Liv Eiselleová – intimate yet visually vivid, ephemeral detail of the moment, or home majesty. The subtle belonging feel.

„I was unable to finetune most of the tracks since the source project materials are unavailable for various reasons. That’s why is the subtitle „unreleased and unfinished recordings“. Although I have a feeling those are something well worth releasing because I can still get back and listen to them again.“ describing Matěj the album.
„Midnight Caravan“, „Sea of Sand“, „Trapped“, „Hear Me“, „Lost in Desert“, and „New Beginnings“ were made for soundtracking the unreleased videogame titled Morning Men, inspired by (literally) legendary comics artist Moebius or sci-fi novel Frank Herbert’s Dune.
